William Kentridge is a South African artist who makes prints, drawings, and torn paper collages. Some of his work contains commentary on post-apartheid conditions in South Africa. His work is generally done in black and white. I think the dichotomy between the top three squares and the bottom three squares is interesting in this image. In the images at the top, the relationship between the man and the bird is peaceful, but in the bottom three images, the bird becomes threatening and the man seems to be fighting it.
